Mike's Farm - Fall Festival Round 1

Saturday morning started like mornings in most households - homemade pancakes, fresh fruit, COFFEE!, a leisurely breakfast around the table....isn't that how it works all across America?! As someone who works 75% of Saturday's this is my vision of families as I'm racing off to work sometimes before the sun is even up. It was such a treat to know that not only was I making breakfast but that I would get to sit down and enjoy it on a Saturday morning! This may sound silly to some but it's something I've learned not to take for granted.

I was perusing a local magazine last week and came across a place called Mike's Farm. It's about an hour north of Wilmington and labeled as the "go to place" during Halloween & Christmas. Mike's Farm dates back to his grandparents who grew crops, tobacco, and had plenty of livestock. When the grandparents past, it was left up to the kids to run the farm. They all decided it was not the life for them and moved on. Recently, Mike and his wife decided farm life was the life for them and have worked hard to bring the place back to life. Now the farm boasts crops, a restaurant, gift shop and petting zoo.

We were treated to a hayride, an adventure in the pumpkin patch, homemade goodies and finally the petting zoo (not quite as elaborate as I expected). Reese had so much fun! She even managed to find an oversize ball and engage me in a game of soccer. Yep, my kid's pretty cool...and resourceful!

Lots of pictures, so please bear with me:

A big squeeze to start the day :)

Pie's "poker" an old corn stalk

Getting ready to discover the pumpkin patch

Picking out ANOTHER pumpkin - I already have 8 on the porch & we brought home 3 more

Silly girl - jumping back & forth on the hayride

Mom & Pie in a hayfield - she's such a sweet girl

Monkeying around in a tree - somehow these 2 always find their way to a tree!

What a great idea and fun day out! I'm ready to move back to America and go to a pumpkin patch with you. Juddy's shirt is fantastic and Court, I love you hair this way. Reese is absolutely beautiful...gonna be a heartbreaker someday!
