I'm not sure that I mentioned I planned a little surprise trip for Juddy as a birthday present. Now this surprise has been kept top secret with only our parents knowing because we really needed some time to ourselves. We desperately needed a chance to reconnect, rejuvenate and relax. Where better to do that then the infamous Biltmore House - for those who don't know it's where we were married 3.5 years ago. Can you believe we haven't been back since our wedding day?!
Well I planned to spend New Year's Eve plus another night and two days at the Inn on Biltmore Estate. Sounds great, right? Well it would have been pretty great if we both weren't deathly ill with fevers in the 101 - 102 range.
We were supposed to have a very quiet dinner for NYE followed by fireworks. Instead, we hardly ate anything at dinner, "stole" the bread from the bread basket, snuck it into my purse and drug each other out of the restaurant with the last ounce of strength we had. Now why did we steal the bread? We were both on an antibiotic for our sinus infection and if you've ever taken an antibiotic on an empty stomach, you know why I took the bread. We needed rations to get us through our middle of the night dosage.
The next morning we had a couples massage that should have been very relaxing...WRONG. The last thing in the world you want when you feel like a train wreck and snot is pouring out of your nose is someone rubbing on you. It was good in that they rubbed those toxins and got things moving so we could drink lots of water and detox. That night we toured the Biltmore by candlelight complete with story teller, ballerinas, music and more. It was such a beautiful way to see the house, but again, I hardly had the energy to do it.
Our last morning, we were both on the up and up...of course. We packed up and headed in to Biltmore Village to eat at our very favorite restaurant, Corner Kitchen. It was our only venture off the Biltmore property and from there we headed straight to TN for the weekend.
Before you feel too sorry for us it still felt warm and fuzzy to be in the place where we were married. It will always hold such a huge place in my heart. I love that we will be able to visit again in the years to come, show Reese where we said our vows, take pictures that will always remind of us where "we" began. It will be fun to watch us grow old in those pictures.
A very special thank you to Juddy for being a trooper even though he felt horrible. Most people would have cancelled but he knew how much we needed it. We are still in need of a quiet escape but we are back to the grind stone with a new year under way. Maybe next winter!
